HEAVY rain and gale-force winds will batter Somerset tomorrow (December 18).
The Met Office issued a weather warning for the county, in particular coastal areas, as gusts of up to 70mph are likely to hit exposed parts.
The weather system is expected to hit the region on Wednesday evening with heavy rain also causing some localised flooding.
The rain will clear and strongest of the winds will ease by the early hours of Thursday morning.
A chief forecaster said: “A deep area of low pressure will pass close to North West Scotland during Wednesday evening, extending bands of heavy rain and gales across many areas from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.
“Strongest gusts are likely in coastal areas exposed to the southerly winds.
“Heaviest rain will be on high ground in the west, with the potential for both river and surface water flooding. “
