AN appeal against Sedgemoor District Council’s refusal of controversial plans for a wind farm near Burnham starts this morning (January 7).
Broadview Energy appealed to the Planning Inspectorate after the council blocked its plans for four 130m turbines at Pilrow Farm near Rooksbridge in April 2013.
SDC planning officer Rebecca Miller said the project was rejected because it would “represent an unacceptable visual intrusion into the flat landscape of the Somerset Levels.”
Broadview’s appeal will be heard at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre in Burnham from January 7 and could last up to eight days.
Campaign group NoPilrow, which is fighting the plans, say they would like as many people as possible to attend some or all of the days of the appeal to demonstrate the amount of public interest in the scheme.
A planning inspector will review the evidence, including witness statements, before reporting to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, for a final decision.
