A GROUP aimed at promoting sustainable energy in Wedmore is now helping people who are struggling with their energy bills.

Steve Mewes set up the Isle of Wedmore Green Group and has launched its latest project to give advice to anyone in Wedmore who needs help reducing their energy bills.

Steve said: “The issue can often be a hidden one. People as a rule don't want to be a bother, think they can cope, muddle through, but this can exacerbate the problem.”

Steve was inspired to set up the group when h moved to his house in Wedmore in 2005 and was faced with a huge fuel bill.

Steve said: “The roof insulation was minimal and the old oil boiler was costing ever more to run.

“Following the installation of an extra 250mm of roof insulation, a wood boiler and solar thermal tubes, fuel costs are 20% of what they were.”

The group will be working with the Centre for Sustainable Energy charity who have people based in Somerset who are able do home visits. They can be contacted on their helpline, 0800 0822234.

If anyone wants to get in touch with the green group they can contact Steve on steve.mewes@virgin.net or 07841 336720.
