VOLUNTEERS are needed to help at tree-planting events in the next few weeks.

Sedgemoor District Council and the Friends of Apex Park Improvement Group have three further planting events planned and need volunteers to help out.

The Big Tree Plant scheme awarded Sedgemoor District Council £1,710 of funding to create an orchard within Burnham’s Apex Park. The next tree planting days will be this Sunday, then Saturday, February 8 and Sunday,February 23.

The first event, on January 11, was a great success with roughly 30 apple trees planned.

Sedgemoor’s ecologist Pete Grainger will meet volunteers at the information centre by the car park in Apex Park at 10am.

Pete said: “We’ll be working until about 4pm each day but you are welcome to join, or leave us, when you like. Please bring along a spade if you have one (we do have a few if you don’t have one available) as well as gardening gloves and warm clothes. You may even want to bring along lunch and a hot drink and make a day of it.”
