A YOUNG engineer from Burnham has been declared Apprentice of the Year in a prestigious competition.
Adam Niblett, 19, of Sheridan Road, has won the British Engineering Manufacturers' Association (BEMA) Apprentice of the Year 2013 award.
Adam, who currently attends Bridgwater College but also attended The King Alfred School in Highbridge, faced stiff competition from thousands of entrants.
He said: “I was put forward for the competition by my trainer who was impressed with my work.
“I had to produce and manufacture a tool to create a component and I wrote a report. This was presented and judged and I was happy to hear I’d won.
“My boss was very pleased and when my apprenticeship is complete I hope to be taken on full time.”
Adam is in his final year of his apprenticeship and works at Trig Engineering, based at Huntworth Business Park, Bridgwater.
He was presented with £250 to be spent on educational books and tools.
Ian Mynett, Director of Training at BEMA, said: “Adam is a credit to his company and the young people working in the Engineering community in the South West, we wish him all the best in his career.”
