Asda in Highbridge reveal refurbishment plans
ASDA in Highbridge has unveiled plans for a refurbishment of its store.
The firm wants to create a mezzanine floor with a café inside the shop as well as devoting more space to its clothing department and refurbishing the whole store.
A redesign of the car park is also planned but the size of the store will remain unchanged.
The firm won approval to build a petrol station from Sedgemoor District Council in January despite objections from residents and town councillors.
Asda is holding public consultations at the store in Caxton Drive on Tuesday (February 11) from 10am-7pm and on Saturday, February 15, between 9am and 1pm.
Alan Jones, Asda’s estates town planning manager, said: “The views of our local community matter so we hope lots of people will come along and give us their feedback.”
Town councillor Pat Burge, vice-chairman of the planning committee, spoke up on behalf of residents against the petrol station during the planning meeting but was more positive about the current proposal.
She said: “A coffee shop in there would be very well-used.”
