ALMOST 400 jobseekers attended a recruitment fair at Burnham’s Princess Theatre.

Sedgemoor District Council, supported by EDF Energy, contacted a range of employers and organisations to showcase jobs on offer for local people, as well as apprenticeships and training opportunities.

Employers included: EDF Energy Employment Brokerage, Cheddar Gorge and Caves, Papa John’s Pizzas, Cadells Amusements/Fun City, Brunel Care, The National Autistic Society, Avon, Warren Farm and The Beachcomber, Pontins, Army Careers, NHS, BUPA and many more.

Laura Fowler, employment and skills outreach worker at Sedgemoor District Council, said: “380 people attended yesterday’s recruitment fair at Burnham.

“Feedback from the employers and jobseekers was really good. Sedgemoor District Council would like to thank all of the organisations, training providers and employers who attended and who helped to make the event such a huge success.”

Job Centre Plus showcased the variety of opportunities in the area. Employers advertised around 275 jobs on the day, with three job seekers being interviewed and offered jobs there and then.

The National Careers Service was also on hand to give help and advice on topics such as Interview Skills and how to compile a CV. Bridgwater College, Somerset Skills and Learning, HIT training, CMT and Somerset Business Agency offered advice on setting up a business.
