WEST Country music legends The Wurzles have announced their plans to help victims of the recent floods in Somerset.

Tommy, Pete, John and Sedge will be playing a charity show in Bridgwater next month, with all proceeds going to the Somerset Flood Relief Fund and the Agricultural Benevolent Fund Institution.

They’ll be joined by Mad Dog Mcrea, a Devon-band who blend a unique mixture of folk rock, pop, gypsy jazz and bluegrass.

Wurzles old-timer Tommy Banner said: “The resilience of the community down here has been remarkable but there is only so much these people can do for themselves.

“We hope that this show will help aid and support their recovery over the coming weeks and months and help them to get back to normal as soon as possible.”

Sil Wilcox, band manager said: “We had contemplated doing a charity song but these things take time to record and release and a concert can be established in a much shorter time frame to ensure these people get the funds when they are most needed.”

The Wurzles, their crew and management, Apr Media, Midnight Mango and The Palace along with Bridgwater Carnival are all offering their services for free.

Mike Mathieson, vocalist from Mad Dog added: “We’re really glad that we’re able to be a part of it and do something to help.

“We’re only fown the road in Devon so we play around Somerset quite a lot and we’ve played with The Wurzles before, we’re huge fans of them.”

The charity show will be playing at Palace in Bridgwater on Thursday March 20, doors open at 8pm.

Tickets cost £12.50 in advance and are available from Strings ‘n’ Things, West Quay Record, Bar Brunel and The Palace.

They can also be purchased online at, SeeTickets, TicketWeb and Gigantic.

Booking fees may apply.

Tickets for the previously scheduled event of The Wurzels at the Palace for April 17 will now be valid for this earlier date.
