THE 40 Commando unit in Taunton put Highbridge student Gary Jordan through his paces as he and his fellow Bridgwater College students experienced a day in the life of a Royal Marine.

Sports and Public Service students from the college learned many of the skills and equipment a member of the Royal Marines needed to have for their challenging job.

They were shown the specialist kit required for snowy conditions, such as expedition in Norway, took part in laser quest in the woods and had a go at weapons handling.

Physically demanding activities were also on the agenda, such as tyre flipping and wall climbing, but they also got to learn first aid and how to treat a bullet wound.

Ruth Burrows, Associate Lecturer, said: “The students were very enthusiastic, motivated and were excellent ambassadors for Bridgwater College.

“The feedback from the Commanding Officer was very positive and we hope to build on these industry links in the future.”
