BURNHAM’S Co-operative Funeral Care has donated £500 towards the cost of a project to celebrate the town’s railway history.
As reported, a group of historians set up the Buffer Stop Memorial Project, which aims to install a set of old railway buffers at the junction of Pier Street and the Esplanade where the town’s old railway line ended.
Group leader John Strickland said: “We are also grateful to the shops and pubs for displaying our collection jars and also to you the public for making donations. We are awaiting the result of our planning application but in advance of this, the buffer rails have now been cut to length for the pebbled area and a team of local residents are about prepare them for painting.
“We have been donated the wooden beam, the paint and also the bolts for attaching the beam.
“Transportation of the buffers to the pebbled site has also been donated at no cost to the project.”
