COUNCILLOR Martin Cox has been re-elected as Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge for a second year.
The popular Mayor, and his wife Arlene, were voted in as Mayor and Mayoress unanimously by the town council on Monday.
Cllr Cox told the Weekly News: “It was a pleasant surprise. I’ve had a really good experience over the last 12 months and have met many interesting people in Burnham and Highbridge and I’m looking forward to meeting even more over the next 12 months as Mayor.
“It’s been a real journey and I have found out a lot more about the towns while being Mayor. There’s so much going on – there’s definitely no excuse for anyone to be bored.”
He said he has been surprised by the amount of voluntary groups in the area and says volunteers are becoming more and more important, especially with more events being organised in the towns.
Cllr Cox added: “I’m really proud of community spirit in Burnham and Highbridge. We have so much happening, such as the Lighthouse Trail.
“I’m now in talks about having some kind of event or recognition for volunteers, going beyond the Civic Awards we already have in place.”
