PEOPLE can take a behind-the-scenes look at the police headquarters to celebrate the force's 40th anniversary.

Phillip Schofield will be the special guest at the opening on Sunday, June 15, when visitors can take part in a variety of events at the Portishead base.

The TV personality will judge a 'Great British Police Bake Off' and an under-12s fancy dress competition, while guests can enjoy displays by the mounted team, a police dog demonstration, live music and a hot air balloon ride over the HQ.

People can also travel back in time by visiting a re-created 1974 police station and look around some vintage police vehicles.

Acting chief constable of Avon and Somerset Police John Long said: “It's difficult now to believe just how antiquated our equipment and facilities were 40 years ago; at the time we thought we were cutting edge.

“Technology may have transformed the way we work now, and the crimes we deal with may have changed, but our fundamental priority to keep our communities safe hasn't.

“Our 40th anniversary event is a great opportunity for people from all corners of the force to glimpse a greater insight into what we do.

The free event runs from 10am to 4pm and tickets can be booked on 01275-816660
