SOMERSET’S volunteers are celebrating National Volunteers Week this week.
Somerset County Council has thrown its support behind the campaign to provide thanks for the vitally important work that volunteers undertake across the county and the nation.
Volunteer organisation ‘Somerset You Can Do’ is asking everyone to nominate ‘Somerset Star’ volunteers who deserve special recognition.
Bryan Mitchell, manager of Somerset You Can Do Voluntary Services, said: “I am proud to be part of celebrating volunteering in Somerset. What volunteers do in Somerset should be shouted from the rooftops; in Somerset we have a galaxy of stars.”
Winning entries will be selected at random by Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Adult Social Care, Councillor William Wallace, with the draw being open to volunteers from all sectors.
Those selected will be invited to attend a presentation where they will receive a certificate and have a star named in their honour.
To nominate a star volunteer, please visit www.scvolunteering.com or call Somerset You Can Do on 01278-664180.
