YOUNG musicians have the chance to discover British folk traditions in the summer holidays on Halsway Manor’s Hothouse residential course.

Now in its fifth year, prior experience as a musician or singer is essential for Hothouse, but it’s no problem if you are new to folk.

Young people aged 13-25 are invited on the fun but intensive experience from July 28 to August 2, ending with a live performance to a festival audience at Sidmouth Folkweek.

Modern British folk musician, composer and producer Will Lang will lead the week with a team of internationally recognised young folk practitioners.

Will is a core tutor on Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Music degree, and has worked on folk education projects across the South-West, including Halsway Manor.

Funding support from the Somerset Community Foundation and Folk South-West means young people from Somerset are eligible for bursary places.

The cost, including five nights’ accommodation, all meals, tuition, activities and a day ticket to Sidmouth Folkweek, is £160.
