A BURNHAM lifeguard has been praised for helping a woman suffering from a serious asthma attack.
The RNLI lifeguard team were alerted by a member of the public on Tuesday to a woman suffering from breathing difficulties. The woman had been enjoying the beautiful day when she began having difficulty breathing.
Lifeguard Dan Sampson responded and quickly assessed the casualty, discovering she was having an asthma attack. Dan administered an asthma spray and oxygen to help the casualty breathe more easily. An ambulance shortly after and Dan assisted paramedics before the woman was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Ross Leighton, lifeguard supervisor for Burnham-on-Sea, said: “Our lifeguards are highly trained in casualty care to deal with a host of situations, such as this. Dan did an excellent job, quickly assessing the woman’s medical condition and promptly treating her before her condition could have deteriorated.
“It was great to see Dan putting his extensive training into practice in a pressured situation.”
