RESIDENTS with oil central heating are being urged to do their bit to reduce pollution this summer.

OFTEC, which represents the oil heating industry, has joined forces with the Environment Agency and oil distribution trade association FPS (Federation of Petroleum Suppliers) to launch the ‘Tank Safe’ campaign.

They want the estimated 47,000 rural householders in Somerset who use oil central heating to make the most of the summer months to check their storage tanks.

It is estimated that at least one in three tanks is over 20 years old and should be replaced.

Tanks past their life expectancy can be prone to leaking which can be bad news for both the householder and the environment.
