BURNHAM Lifeboat Open Day is set to become an annual fixture in the calendar after the first event was a huge success.
Crowds flocked to the town on Sunday to take the opportunity to join in the fun and games laid on and find out more about the men and women who provide the life-saving service.
Among the attractions were a Land Rover and lifeboat pull through town, a demonstation of a ‘shout’ giving onlookers chance to see all that is involved when the lifeboat is called out, and chance to inspect the kit and chat to the volunteers.
Family fun including welly wanging, throwing wet sponges at lifeboat men, a tombola, raffle and cake sale.
RLNI press officer Mike Lang told the Weekly News: “It was an amazing success, enhanced by the excellent weather, and almost certain to become an annual event.
“The volunteers raised more than £1,000 towards RNLI funds, plus the lifeboat shop saw a massive upturn in takings.”
