IT was a nice day for a white wedding, and for raising money, when a group of dress-wearers hit the streets of Burnham to raise money for charity.

Organiser Jayne Hancock paraded through the town centre with friends and family, all wearing wedding dresses, to raise money for Brainwave children’s charity.

The group began their fundraising in Bridgwater on August 15 before moving to Burnham on August 22, raising a total of £547.44.

Jayne said: “The Wedding Dress Days collections by myself and friends has been happening every year since 2006, when it was started by Take a Break magazine, who invited readers to don their wedding dresses and collect for their favourite charity.

“I would like to thank the collectors in Bridgwater and Burnham who helped me, especially my husband John, and the shoppers, workers and holiday-makers who gave so generously.

“I was very touched when a lady dropped her change into my tin – I thanked her and she replied 'please do not thank me, we should be thanking you for caring.”
