YARNBOMBERS have created a colourful tribute to a Burnham teenager who died suddenly last week.

A shelter on the esplanade on the seafront was decorated overnight on Friday with bright items including flags, birds, fishing nets and people taking in the view sitting on a bench.

The display was created to honour the memory of 18- year-old Charley Marks and the display will now be used as a postcard which will be sold to raise funds for a charity being set up by Charley’s family.

His mother, Jo Marks, told the Weekly News: “I’ve decided to set up a charity called ‘In Charley’s Memory’. This will be to help people, like Charley, who feel that they've nowhere to get help.

“My idea is to have a website, forum and eventually go nationwide as mental health seems to get hidden away and there’s limited money in the NHS to help young people like Charley.

“I’m going to raise lots of money and people all around have offered to help me.”

She said she would like to thank in particular Gill Hills from the Crafty Teacup who has decided to donate money from the postcard yarnbombing on Burnham seafront to create a plaque dedicated to Charley.

She added she would like to thank all well-wishers for the money donated so far and to the 400 people who attended Charley’s funeral service last Friday.

Friends of the former King Alfred School pupil have been holding a series of candlelit vigils at Manor Gardens in Burnham with hundreds of young people joining in.
