YOUNG and unemployed people were given the opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the food industry from one of Highbridge’s leading businesses.

Working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Isleport Foods held a half-day workshop as part of Feeding Britain’s Future – Skills for Work Month, to give 16 to 24-yearolds the opportunity to develop their employability skills for future job applications.

The workshop included gaining an insight into the UK Food Industry and how it operates, CV writing and interview techniques Isleport Foods is one of a group of Bakkavor businesses taking part in the national campaign, which has united the entire food and grocery industry in an effort to tackle youth unemployment and highlight the diversity of career prospects in the sector with the food industry itself needing to recruit 137,000 new employees before 2017.

Feeding Britain’s Future is the first initiative of its kind, giving young people access to farms, factories and stores, and first-hand knowledge of the skills needed for a career in the food and drink industry.
