RESIDENTS across Sedgemoor have the chance to spell out how they think the county council should be spending its money when a roadshow comes to the district.

The ‘Listening Learning Changing’ roadshow will be at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre at the indoor farmer’s market at Junction 24 of the M5 between 9am and 2pm on Saturday.

It is seeking people’s views and priorities as the council addresses the difficult of meeting increasing demand for its services with significant reductions in funding.

Visitors can have a go at balancing the council’s budget on a giant set of scales, with weights representing income on one side and service budgets on the other.

There will also be the chance to vote for your top council priorities and complete a short questionnaire.

The same questionnaire is also available online at www.somerset.gov.uk/listening Cllr John Osman, leader of Somerset County Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to tell us what they think as we face up to future challenges.

“If you can’t make the event, then please have a go online.

“We calculate that we will need to make around £30million of savings for the next financial year if we are to balance our budget.

“It’s difficult for the council to be everything to everyone in these tough financial times.

“I am committed to making this a council that seeks people’s views and listens to them when making some of the difficult decisions that we face.

“Wherever possible we want to reflect what our residents want.”

This is the last planned stop for the roadshow which has already visited a dozen towns and events around the county, speaking to about 3,000 people.

Representatives from the council will be present to answer questions and fun activities will be available to keep children entertained.
