BURNHAM residents are being warned to take care and help prevent gas-related incidents such as leaks, explosions and fires.

Alan Coxon, community safety prevention manager, said: “With the colder weather approaching, many people will naturally be using their gas appliances more than ever over the coming months.

“It’s important that all gas appliances are safety checked at least once a year as poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.”

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is advising people to always use a registered engineer, to regularly have your appliances checked and serviced in line with the manufacturers’ instructions.

A registered engineer in your area can be found by calling the Gas Safe Register on 0800 408 5500 or by visiting www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk People are able to sign up for a free reminder service at www.staygassafe.co.uk
