STAFF at a cider farm near Highbridge are raising their glasses after one of their most popular ciders proved to be the apple of the judge’s eye.
West Croft Cider Farm has scooped two awards for Janet’s Jungle Juice, a popular cider the farm has been producing for nearly 25 years.
The cider, which was named after former apple picker Janet White, has won a clutch of awards over the years since it was first produced by owner John Harris in 1991.
Representatives from the Campaign for Real Ale arrived at the Brent Knoll cider farm on Saturday afternoon to present the Somerset Beer Festival’s first prize for cider award.
A second People’s Choice Award from the National Winter Ales Festival 2011 was also presented.
Mr Harris said: “We started producing Janet’s Jungle Juice nearly 25 years ago and we called it that after my excellent apple picker of the time – Janet White.
It was called Jungle Juice because the orchard looked a bit like a jungle when I started in 1991. Over the years it’s been very popular and created a lot of interest.”
