ROAD safety officers in the county have been driving home the dangers of using phones while behind the wheel.

An operation to educate motorists putting themselves at risk by phoning, Facebooking or texting while driving stopped 15 drivers for offences in less than two hours this week along a short stretch of road.

Once pulled over, the Road Safety Team spoke to the drivers of the risks they were potentially putting themselves, their passengers, and other motorists in.

Many other drivers were pulled over for not wearing their seatbelts.

The 15 people spotted and stopped in the operation have signed up to attend a follow-up driver education session, the eldest aged 82 and the youngest 21.
