ANYONE who has ever run a marathon will know that when you cross the finishing line the last thing you want to do is think about running another step – let alone another 26 miles.

But next week, three friends will be doing just that – a marathon a day for seven days.

Scott Woodberry from Burnham, Matthew Axe from Highbridge and Tim Scarrott from Bridgwater will be trying to raise as much money as possible for charity by running a total of 183.4 miles in a week.

Scott, 39, is a veteran of numerous charity challenges, having previously climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and has just returned from the summit of Europe’s highest mountain, Mount Elbus in Russia.

He told the Weekly News: “I set up a charity called Petal in memory of my mum, Christine, who sadly passed away in 2008 after battling ovarian cancer.

“Ever since I set the trust up I’ve always been thinking about what I can do to raise awareness and generate funds.”

The friends decided to run a week’s worth of marathons after Scott insisted that his friends get involved.

The challenge will see them run from Burnham to Cheddar on Saturday and then from Cheddar onto Bristol, Frome, Glastonbury, Taunton, Minehead and then finally completing the gruelling challenge in Bridgwater the following Friday.

With none of the three being experienced runners, Scott is hoping that the support they can give each other, as well as from family and friends, will be enough to get them over the finish line.

He said: “I’m extremely apprehensive about it.

“I’m not a runner by any stretch and even though I’ve done all sorts of challenges before, this is something totally different.

“However we’re all pretty determined guys, we’re running for great causes and the support from family, friends and all the people sponsoring us will hopefully be enough to get us over the finish line.”

The runners aim to raise a minimum of £5,000 which Petal, The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust, will distribute equally to Musgrove Park ICU, the British Heart Foundation and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research To donate to the trust or follow the team’s progress visit www.justgiving.com/megamarathons2014
