SHOPPERS are being warned to stay alert and routinely check their balance this Christmas as a festive spike in the number of lost and stolen credit cards is anticipated, according to Nationwide Building Society figures.
The society’s research has found that the average customer spent about £500 last December.
However, soaring purchases led to an increase of more than one-third in the number of cards reported lost or stolen over Christmas compared to summer.
