STUDENTS at a Highbridge school have received help in their geography lessons from a rapper this week.

London musician and lyricist Silas Zephaniah visited students at King Alfred School to teach them how to rap-to-learn complex geography projects and then got them to perform the rap songs.

Silas supported all three of the school’s Year 9 geography classes and two of the Year 10 classes on creating revision raps for the ‘Extreme Environments’ topic.

He also supported students in an AS Sociology class in a lesson about ‘identity’.

Over the day he helped students to revise their keywords as rap songs to help the topics to stick in their minds.

Head of geography Catherine Owen said: “There were some fantastic raps produced on the day.

“While the students worked on their rap songs, Silas made sure that he visited every group, discussing their work and helping them to develop their ideas.”
