NINE children were identified as victims of sexual offences at schools in Somerset last year.

A Freedom of Information response has revealed that between November 2013 and 2014, 16 sexual offences were reported at schools in Taunton, Bridgwater, Wellington, West Somerset and South Somerset.

Of that number, they say 11 relate to a serious sexual offence.

There were also two rape offences and a further three sexual offences where someone is intentionally touched, and they do not give their permission.

Police say that 11 suspects were identified, eight adults and three children, and a total of 16 victims, seven adults and nine children.

They add that seven of the offences took place at secondary schools, two at primary schools, and the remaining seven at colleges or specialist schools.
