LIBRARIES across Somerset will be hosting a range of events and activities to celebrate National Libraries Day on Saturday, February 7.

From coffee mornings and craft demonstrations to Lego clubs, storytimes, reading groups and poetry readings, there will be something to suit all tastes and ages, including treasure hunts for children and a literary quiz for adults.

You can join in the fun by taking a selfie (in your library or elsewhere) and telling the world what you love about your library.

Tweet your photos to @LibrariesWest using the hashtag #NLD15 or share them with LibrariesWest on Facebook.

Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, said: “There’s so much more to libraries than books, and the range of events organised for National Libraries Day is proof of this.

“This is a great celebration of our libraries and I’d encourage everyone to pop along and get involved.”

On National Libraries Day, library visitors can reserve up to two items on the LibrariesWest catalogue free of charge.

There will also be half price DVD hire at www.librarieswest.org.uk and you can enter a free prize draw to win a Samsung Galaxy tablet and other great prizes.

If you find it difficult to attend a reading group but would still like to read the same books as others and share your thoughts virtually, then you may find the Facebook eAudio reading group of interest.

Search for ‘LibrariesWest’ on Facebook on February 7 to find out more.

Events include iPad and tablet sessions at Bridgwater, Minehead, Taunton, Yeovil and Frome. There will also be live music in Yeovil Performing Arts Library with the Puddletown Duo, Yeo Historical Dancers and a singing workshop.

The build-up to National Libraries Day starts on Friday, February 6, with BBC Somerset’s ‘Cav Live in Libraries’ event at Street Library between 2pm-4pm.

Presenter Claire Cavanagh will be joined by authors Tim Freke, Julian Holland and Jenny Kane, and publisher Barry Cunningham.

The library will also be hosting a free family history workshop, rhymetime, poetry reading and more.
