HOME Secretary Teresa May came to Burnham last Friday for a spot of shopping at the farmers’ market.
She was in town to support the constituency’s Conservative parliamentary candidate, James Heappey, ahead of the General Election in May.
She chatted with traders and residents, and visited Bessie’s Sweet Shoppe to help launch their General Election bonbon poll.
Customers will be invited to cast their vote by dropping an appropriately-coloured bonbon into a jar labelled with their preferred party.
Shop owner Sue Barber said: “We thought it would generate some great local interest in the election.
“We want to see whether Burnham could be the town that reflects what’s going on in the election.
“We’re encouraging locals to have a free vote with the added bonus of a free raffle ticket.”
Mr Heappey said: “It was brilliant to welcome Theresa to Burnham so we could show off some of the amazing food, drink and crafts made in this part of the world.
“She spent time talking with every stallholder and then whizzed round a second time to buy her lunch.”
