THE Burnham Food and Drink festival is continuing to champion young talent on the KDS Fresh Ideas Stage with its youngest chef to date set to show off her baking skills, with the help of her grandmother.

Isobel Simmons, a Year 6 pupil at Joseph’s RC primary School in Burnham, will be rolling up her sleeves on the demo stage, along with her grandmother assisting, to bake her tasty rainbow sponge cake.

Festival director Bev Milner Simonds said: “Izzy messaged us quite a few times with queries about the Great Burnham Bake Off and we when got chatting about her baking ambitions it was clear that she is an inspiring baker in the making.

She added: “We talked through what was involved with Izzy’s mum and agreed that a demonstration from Izzy would be a greatedition addition to the festival line-up.”

Izzy, who has just sat her sat exams, explained how she manages to fit in her baking amongst her busy schedule.

She said|: “I love to bake, play football and do ballet classes at Curtain Call.

“I am currently practicing for my Grade 2 exam in ballet. As well as this, I am eagerly waiting to see if I have been accepted for the Junior Bake Off programme on the BBC.

“When I come home from school and at weekends I can be found in the kitchen baking fabulous creations such as my infamous Rainbow Cake, inventing lemon curd pies and generally making a lovely mess.

“I love to watch The Great British Bake Off and finding out about how to bake different things. I sometimes go to my Grandma’s house and we bake things together.

"My great granny was an experienced cook, who was well known for her golden syrup sponge puddings! So it seems to run in the family.”

Fellow festival director Sarah Milner Simonds added: “Getting younger cooks involved in the festival and showing-off their skills to their peers and visitors is a great dimension to the festival.

We love to champion local talent and we wish Izzy the very best of luck in Junior Bake Off later this summer.”

Izzy will showing off her skills on the KDS Fresh Ideas Stage at mid-day in the Baptist Church on College Street.
