IT was drama on Burnham beach on Sunday evening after a dog walker became disorientated, causing both RNLI lifeboats to be launched.

A 41 year old man was strolling along the beach from Berrow with his dog when when the incoming high tide caused him to lose his bearings.

Calling his wife, he said he didn't know where he was.

His mother dialled 999 for the Coastguard, with Milford Haven control alerting Burnham Coastguard rescue team as well as RNLI volunteers, who launched both lifeboats.

RNLI crew members, along with the coastguard, searched Berrow beach to locate the man.

The crew of Puffin, the Burnham D class lifeboat, set off a parachute flare to assist.

Fortunately, the man regained his bearings and met with a lifeboat volunteer, as well as Coastguard officers.

He was safely taken back to where he parked his car.

Helmsman, Ashley Chappel, said: "’We located the man approximately one mile North of Burnham’s lower lighthouse.

"He was surprised that we were searching for him, but we explained that we were there to assist, and I waited with him until the arrival of the coastguard."

Lifeboats press officer, Mike Lang, said: "The man could have been at risk, and if worried, always dial 999 for the coastguard.

"A seemingly harmless situation could escalate, and we would rather launch needlessly than have loss of life because someone did not call.

"However, it is advisable to check the tide times when beach walking."
