THE workmen building a new petrol station in Highbridge were left astonished last week when they discovered what appears to be a lot of local history.
Preserved glass bottles were pulled in their hundreds from the clay under the site that is to be the new Asda on Caxton Road.
They range from cider and beer bottles to perfume, as well as pots and ink holders.
Rumours are that the site used to be used for old landfill, as many of the artefacts are in good condition.
The site manager is giving them away to local people, and is expecting to find many more in the coming days as work continues.
