In the gathering darkness last night at around 7pm the fire and rescue service was called to Diamond Farm Caravan Park at Brean.
In a statement the service said: "Specialist rescue team from Bridgwater plus a fire crew from Burnham on Sea attended the scene to attempt a rescue of a horse that had got itself stuck in a water filled ditch. A specialist rescue Officer from Devon and Somerset also attended this incident along with an on duty Flexi Officer."
"Almost 2 hours into the rescue the horse was finally rescued from the ditch by fire crews using a local farmer's tractor, strops and lines. The horse was then placed into the care of the local attending Vet and owners who were also in attendance."
