AN ELDERLY woman from Somerset was injured during a robbery while she was on her way to church yesterday morning (October 11).

Police have released a description of a man they would like to speak to following the incident.

The 70-year-old was walking on a footbridge running between Armoury Road and The Park in Yeovil just after 10am, when a man grabbed her handbag, causing her to fall over.

She suffered significant injuries to her shoulder, as well as minor head injuries, and she’s continuing to receive treatment at Yeovil District Hospital.

Her handbag and purse were later found, but money and keys had been taken.

Det Sgt Lee Jones said: “The force used by the offender during the robbery has resulted in the victim suffering some very serious injuries.

“It’s hard to believe anyone could do this to a 70-year-old woman, who was on her way to church at the time.

“An investigation is under way and we’re carrying out a number of actions including reviewing CCTV and progressing forensic enquiries.

“We’re trying to trace a man seen in the area at the time of the incident.

“He’s described as white, between 20 and 40-years-old, of slim build, and he was wearing a grey beanie hat, sky blue hooded top, dark blue navy trousers/tracksuit bottoms, and dark grey or black trainers.”
