AS part of the festive Frostival celebrations in Burnham, people can meet an incredibly realistic looking polar bear.

On Saturday December 5, the bear, named Nanuq, is a life sized animatronic creation and will be making an appearance in the town to help bring out the wintery cheer.

He is appearing at 11:30am, 1pm and 2pm at the Ritz Social Club on Victoria Street, as a part of the event organised by the Town Council.

Town Centre Manager, Bev Milner Simons, said: "The Frostival gathers pace in Burnham with Nanuq the polar bear arriving at 11:30am on Saturday.

"The bear and handler will be appearing three times.

"Friends, families and bear loving adults are welcome to meet him and have their photograph taken with him.

"We will also have Santa Claus with us too, he will be on hand to welcome you all from 10am and plus there are stilt walkers out and about in the town centre."

Entertainment has been organised for every weekend in the run up to Christmas, with giant roller skating baubles, brass bands, lost elves, carollers and stilt walkers.

The celebrations began with the much anticipated Christmas light switch-on on November 21.

The council also offered a free LED lantern to every business and household in the town centre to be placed in their window for the festival period.

The lanterns were distributed on November 17 at Burnham library, with 120 given to businesses taking part.

"This is a simple plan to bring all the town centre together over the festive period by lighting up the hundreds of windows on the main streets but also on the side streets too," added Bev.

Entry to the Frostival event and all those organised by the Town Council is free of charge.
