IT was a gathering of celebrations and festive cheer at the Highbridge Christmas lights switch on.

The highly anticipated event took place on Saturday November 28, with the town Mayor doing the honours.

The actual ceremony was held at 5pm next to Highbridge's Christmas tree on the Town Green, with a huge crowd turning out to enjoy the annual festivities.

Pupils from Churchfield School's choir treated onlookers to carols as they sang outside the the Community Hall, which was also open for teas and coffee as well as craft stalls.

The switch on event was organised by Highbridge Chamber of Trade and Commerce, with chairman, Mike Murphy, thanking the Town Council for their support.

The council also provided the Christmas tree and the grant for the lighting in Market Street and Church Street.

Highbridge has well and truly entered into the festive cheer.
