AS part of the Queen's 90th birthday celebration, residents and visitors of Burnham-on-Sea flocked to a special event held in the town.

Gatherers met at the water fountain to commemorate the day on April 21, with the morning beginning at 10.50am by the flag pole in Pier Street.

The mayor, mayor’s cadet, deputies, councillors, the public, clergy and representatives from the armed forces attended, with the mayor saying a few words.

At 11am, the union flag was raised raised and at 11.05am, a blessing was given by the clergy.

At 11.10am, the town crier read a royal statement from the Loyal Order of Town Criers, which was followed by a commemorative photograph opportunity at 11.20am.

Ann Popham, a town resident who attended, said: "There bells and prayers, and we sang happy birthday and everybody could join in if they wished.

"Cllr Michael Clarke raised the flag and we all sang the national anthem.

"Rev Sharon Eldergill said prayers for the service."
