BURNHAM-ON-SEA RNLI Lifeboat station is holding a special recruitment day where visitors can learn more about volunteering at the organisation.

During the day, there will be representatives of various RNLI activities to Talk with and discuss, plus basic refreshments will be on hand at station.

The event will be held on Saturday July 9 between 10 am and 3 pm, and the lifeboat station’s hi-tech equipment will be on show throughout the day.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Matt Davies says; ‘I know the first step through the gates can sometimes be difficult, but we are a friendly bunch of volunteers, and will welcome all enquiries, so come in and see us.

“If you cannot attend on 9 July, pop into the station during one of our regular Wednesday evening training sessions. ’

There are many ways of becoming involved with the RNLI, for example, you could be part of the lifeboat crew, the shore crew, the fundraising team, or just help out with supporting events orvolunteering in the shop.

Not all roles involve getting wet.

Lifeboats Press Officer Mike Lang added: “However you wish to support us, there will be a way to make this possible, for example, many of our lifeboat crew members start completely from scratch, and training is willingly given.

“Being involved with a close team of volunteers can provide much satisfaction, and a sense of achievement.”
