YOU can now print in 3D at a library in Somerset.

Taunton library, in Taunton, home to the Glass Box is now offering an exciting and innovative 3D printing service.

Following the successful launch of the Glass Boxlast week, companies, entrepreneurs and members of the public in Somerset are now able to create and print their own 3D objects within the library.

Recently, there has been a huge growth in 3D printing within the business and education fields.

By placing 3D printers in the Glass Box the library service has provided a way for many more children and adults in Somerset to have the opportunity to experience how this technology works.

In the Glass Box you can print a design from an online website or use the 3D computer-aided design packages available in the Glass Box, to design your own 3D creation.

Following a 3D printing induction session, you can go on to print your design on one of the two 3D printers available in the Glass Box.

Staff or volunteers will be on hand to guide you through the process, and there will be a very minimal charge to cover the cost of the materials.

Cllr David Hall, cabinet member with a responsibility for Somerset Libraries said: “It was a real honour for me to officially launch Taunton Library’s Glass Box last week.

“The Glass Box will create a Taunton town centre focal point for business start-ups and local entrepreneurs, providing information and signposting, as well as a space for collaboration, skills sharing and creative and digital making opportunities.

"I believe it will also begin to address the digital skills gap in Somerset by inspiring young people to get creative with digital technology.

“The Glass Box is a very exciting project for Taunton and shows how innovative your local library can be.

"I know a lot of hard work has gone in to creating this new digital space for the people of Taunton and our wider community and I would urge everyone to come down and see what it is all about.”
