TWO martial art enthusiasts from Burnham-On-Sea are celebrating winning international medals at the recent TKDI World Championships.

Isabelle Froggatt and Matthew Palfrey from Burnham’s TAGB Tae Kwon-Do Club attended the event at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, along with more than 3,000 others from across the world.

Ms Frogatt won bronze in girls heavy weight sparring and Mr Palfrey won bronze in the mens middle weight sparring.

Senior instructor Jane Lambert, who has competed for many years at an international level, said: “I am so incredibly proud of how all our students prepared and performed for such a major competition.

“We have training solidly for 6 weeks in the run up to the Worlds and developed a strong sense of camaraderie, it was amazing to see them encouraging and supporting each other.

“They all fought with great composure and sportsmanship, I couldn’t have asked for more.”

3,720 competitors from over 20 countries travelled to what is billed as the largest Tae Kwon-Do tournament in the world, these included teams from Argentina, Australia, Canada, South Africa and USA.

Classes are held at King Alfred School on Tuesday and Thursday evenings when men, women and children of all abilities are welcome.
