THERE was some stiff competition in Burnham-on-Sea this weekend as visitors battled it out in food competitions.

The food and drink festival hosted two competitions over the weekend, the Great Burnham Bake Off and The Great Burnham Brew Off which attracted a lot of attention.

The competitions were free to enter and had panels of guest judges from local businesses.

The Great Burnham Bake Off was looking for a family recipe and new pie filling where the winners creation would go into production for the Humble Pie Company.

Whereas the Great Burnham Brew Off was looking for tasty alcoholic infusions and creations to interest the esteemed judges.

Beverley Milner-Simonds, co organiser said: "The three free to enter competitions saw a great range of entries.

"For the Brew Off the judges from Bakkavor Deserts and the Two Thirsty Gardeners tried a great variety of infusions and liqueurs before settling on their top tipple from Simon Allan - an apple, blackberry and cinnamon gin.

"In the Bake Off, sponsored by local business The Retreat Caravan Park, the team of judges were looking for a great family recipe and a new pie filling that would go into production for The Humble Pie Company.

"Cathy Bird of Burnham-on-Sea triumphed with her Moroccan Lamb pie and three local bakers also shown with their family bakes include two previous winners, Phil Harvey & Taylor Tasker."
