THE PORCH of a Burnham home was destroyed in a fire yesterday which also saw paramedics treat the occupant for smoke inhalation.

Ambulance and fire crews rushed to the scene on Marine Drive at 7.31am (Sunday, November 28).

Two fire engines from Burnham on Sea Station were sent, and on arrival crews confirmed that smoke and flames were issuing.

Crews immediately began fighting the fire wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet, a covering safety jet and a thermal imaging camera.

The occupier of the property had been assisted from the property prior to the arrival of the fire service but received oxygen therapy from fire crews for possible smoke inhalation whilst awaiting arrival of an ambulance.

Crews confirmed this to be a two story property with a fire in the porch area.

The porch was 100 per cent damage was received to the porch, with a further five per cent smoke damage to the remainder of the property.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Crews have fitted smoke detectors to the property.
