SEDGEMOOR’S dog wardens have issued a further five fixed penalty notices to dog owners in Burnham-on-Sea.

Four notices have been issued for dogs being taken onto the banned beach area and one for dog fouling on the Esplanade.

This brings the total to ten for fixed penalty notices issued for dog-related incidents on the beaches, since October 25.

Sedgemoor’s dog warden service will continue to undertake random patrols on beaches and will issue fixed penalty notices to anyone contravening the regulations, so pick up the poo rather than a fine!

Last month Burnham and Highbridge town councillors hit out at Sedgemoor District Council plans to lift winter dog bans.

The proposals were submitted in October this year after the district council decided to review the current orders relating to dog control issues such as dog exclusion areas, dogs on leads and also dog fouling.

The town council has written a letter to Sedgemoor District Council expressing their anger.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said: “As part of the process of renewing the dog control orders across the district and to take account of changes in legislation, it is appropriate for Sedgemoor District Council to consult the town council on orders that covered the beach area.”
