THE chairman of a Somerset breast cancer charity said she was thrilled to discover the charity had raised nearly half a million pounds in the last 20 years.

Somerset Breast Cancer Now has run fundraising events up and down the county to raise money for breast cancer treatment and raised more than £30,000 in 2016 alone. 

Holly MacBeth, chairman at Somerset Breast Cancer Now said:" We are pleased to announce that during 2016 we managed to raise an incredible £36,000 bringing the total that the group has raised for Breast Cancer Now to an amazing £405,000 since it was founded in 1997.

"This is a staggering amount of money that has helped fund such important research studies and new developments into finding the cure for breast cancer.


"So much has changed and new advances have been found in the past 20 years bringing better drugs for cancer patients, new ways to treat and detect early onset breast cancer and providing the after care and support they need.

"More women are now surviving breast cancer but still more are being diagnosed than ever before, and every 45 minutes another women in the UK dies from this disease.

"We do truly rely on our valued supporters and fundraisers to help us to continue to fund the ground breaking research that will stop men and women dying from breast cancer.

"We also would like to Thanks CJ Hole for their support throughout 2016 with their various fundraising initiatives including Ed Creswick & his son Tom doing a skydive they managed to raise over £1000 for our charity.
