A CHARITY is looking for volunteers to help take calls from people suffering from mental health problems.

The Samaritans of Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset are looking for volunteers after they have seen a massive increase in the volume of calls received.

The recent surges in calls comes after the charity launched a Samaritans free phone number and the charity hopes that new volunteers will help the charity continue to offer its service.

A spokesman for Samaritans also revealed they will be holding information mornings to give prospective volunteers information about " On the second Saturday of each month informal recruitment information mornings are being held.

"The next event  is on Saturday April 8 giving potential new volunteers  all the information they need to know about being part of the charity either as a listener or a support volunteer, helping with fundraising, finance, publicity, etc.

"You don’t need to be an expert to be a good listener you just need to accept how other people feel and be there for them in their hour of need. We are experiencing more calls than ever and welcome volunteers from all walks of life to help us maintain and expand this vital service.”
