AN AWARD winning Shepton Mallet farming company has launched two new yoghurts with unusual flavours.

Brown Cow Organics, based at Perridge Farm in Shepton Mallet has launched two live vegetable yoghurts, organic carrot and tumeric and organic beetroot.

Owners Judith Freane said she launched the yoghurts after more of her customers were asking for low sugar foods and vegetable based products.

Mrs Freane said:"We had noticed a growing trend toward food that was traditionally perceived as fruit based, such as smoothies and vegetables appearing as a breakfast staple so felt that vegetable yoghurts was a natural progression; particularly with us producing such a naturally low sugar, fat and calorific organic yoghurt.

"The vegetable yoghurts were recently featured on BBC 1 CountryFile, with Matt Baker and Ellie Harrison after a day on the farm filming the Guernsey's and the yoghurt production, sitting around the farmhouse kitchen table whilst blind folded they tasted the new flavours, guessing their origin.

"We can safely say that they were a big hit."

The new yoghurts are made using whole milk from the farms 100 strong herd of Guernsey dairy cows and UK grown products.

The company has won 48 awards for their dairy produce and has been praised by Tony Turnball, food editor for The Times who said: "Brown Cow Organics make the best yoghurt in the world."

Brown Cow Organics vegetable organic yoghurt is sold in recyclable, re-usable British glass jars and will soon be available exclusively through independent retailers such as Wholefoods and Planet Organic.

It can also be bought fron their website.
