A WOMAN from Burnham-on-Sea took to the skies to raise money for a drug rehabilitation charity.

Angie Clarke, manager of Somewhere House in Burnham faced her fears on March 31 and skydived out of a plane at 10,000ft.

Ms Clarke, said: "It was probably the most terrifying experience of my life, I hated every minute of it but I knew the money was going to be going to a good cause.

"I got persuaded to do it by a group of friends who also wanted to raise money and when the plane took off I was extremely nervous."

Ms Clarke set up Somewhere House eight years ago and has more than 23 years experience of working with people who suffer from mental health problems including addiction.

The money she raises from the skydive will go towards offering therapy and counselling services for people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.

She hopes to raise £10,000 for the rehabilitation centre.

Ms Clarke added: "I have terrible problems with vertigo so for me jumping out of the plane was a real challenge.

"I had five friends with me and that eased my nerves because I knew we would all be doing it together.

"I was strapped to a really nice man who would be diving with me and when we got out of the plane I was terrified, I just blocked everything out and closed my eyes.

"I was grateful to have my feet back on dry land.

"It is true that it was a unique experience but I don't think I will ever do something like that again.

"It was one of the hardest things I have ever done and it has definitely not cured my fear of heights but I am glad I did it.

"So far I have raised just under £4,000 and I really hope the total continues to go up as people have been very generous with their money so far."
