CROWDS of people dipped into their wallets and shopped until they dropped during a spring fair fundraiser at Burnham-on-Sea Methodist Church.
Community groups from across Burnham set up their stalls to help with the fundraising effort including a bric-a brac stall from Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society and a stall from Burnham’s Woodturning Club.
The event, on May 6, raised more than £800 to help towards repairing the church roof which has fallen into a state of disrepair.
Dorothy May, organiser of the spring fair, thanked all who took part.
“We had a great selection of stalls at the fair and we raised £877 which should help towards getting the roof repaired,” she said. “
"The church roof is in desperate need of repair, it is leaking through the ceiling and we are having to use buckets to collect any water that is leaking through.
“We need to raise £85,000 to have it repaired and we have £60,000 so we still have a long way to go to raise the money.
"We have more events planned for later this year and hope they will help us to reach our total.”
