A FORMER police officer at Birkenhead for 28 years, Mr William Crawford, and his wife of Stoddens Walk, Burnham-on-Sea, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1972.

The couple have moved to Burnham only three years before, after Mr Crawford retired in 1965.

Both spoke highly of the town and of the friendliness of the people.

Mr and Mrs Crawford had one daughter, Brenda Whittle who lived in Shipham.

Mr and Mrs Whittle and their son Nigel took the happy couple to the Mendip Hotel for lunch before having a party at their home.

Mr and Mrs Crawford, who were married on May 17 in 1922, at Gwersyllt Parish Church near Wrexham, received many floral and other gifts, plus congratulatory cards and telegrams.

One telegram even came all he way from South Africa.

They thanked everyone who sent good wishes and gifts to them to help celebrate their happy day.
